Every Little Bit Count, First Year Review

It's been a year since I started tracking the loose change that I find. Each time I have found some monies I added it to my list and chronicled it here. I wasn't sure at the time what the results would be or how dedicated I would remain. Here's a little review.

The key places I look for loose change are:

  • Parking Lots
  • Checkout Lanes
  • Vacated Desks
  • Vending Machines
  • Traffic Intersections

I am a little surprised. I didn't realize I found almost $20 a year just abandoned. Though I've never kept track before, this is probably fairly typical.

As expected, the vast majority of the coins found were pennies. However, I found more, dollar-wise, in dimes. Makes sense I suppose, since they are small and easy to loose. Also, apparently they get left in vending machines a lot.

I don't keep records on this but I'm pretty sure that I found more coins at traffic intersections than I did in parking lots.

I've been keeping my collection in an old First Union bank bag.

I'll admit, my dedication to this has waned a little. Also, I think it makes sense to group a few days worth of finds rather than have so many days dedicated to single cent finds. I am going to continue doing it that way.

I'm going to continue for the next year. It'll probably be more of the same
